The Uluru Man
The Uluru Man
I dream that I am at Uluru in central Australia. There is an old Aboriginal man playing a song on a guitar. There is a young woman in a bath next to him. I am struck by the colors. The blue of the sky, the red of the earth, the green of the vegetation. The song that he is singing is beautiful. It is a simple song that he is playing and it is like he is hearing the song and then just playing along with it in simple chords.
The dream makes me sit bolt upright. I know it is a big dream. It reminds me of something old. It reminds me of something archaic. It reminds of a deep past. I always say, that Uluru is like our Cathedral in Australia. Our natural Cathedral. Our sacred place in the centre of Australia. I have been there and it reminded me of our Aboriginal dreaming and some of the first stories and myths of this land. And it feels like it is so full of memory and calling this dream.
And I remember growing up with Aboriginal kids in country Western Australia. I saw one of them listen to a song on the radio and then just play around on the guitar and play it by ear. That is what this old man is doing, playing by ear. It is like he is hearing the music and then playing by ear.
And this dream reminds me of the 2 million year old man in Jung – the first man – Adam - the man who is made from the clay(or from the red earth). It reminds me of the beginning of time where there was harmony between nature and the universe. What stays with me, is how simple and moving the song is. He is catching the song from the divine but rooted in the earth. It is like the divine song is also rooted in the earth. It is also a voice of the earth and a voice rising up from the earth.
