In this episode of the podcast I am speaking with Michael Caplan about Hillman and Giegerich. Amongst other things we talk about a major turning point for him at nineteen, stumbling across Hillman, and then Giegerich, Logos, the logical life of the soul, Animus/Anima, mythical fascinations, realism and Hegel. Along with what is happening with the Left? and some of his views on how to navigate through these strange upside-down times.
Michael Caplan’s production company House of ShAkE was launched in 2017 with ‘A Handbook for Ecstatic Survival’, by internationally celebrated Canadian choreographer, David Earle. Michael has a background encompassing theatre and performance (BFA, Contemporary Dance), publication design (for, among others, Spring Journal & Books), and singing down-home music (including for James Hillman in Philadelphia, 2008). His engagement with the ideas of Hillman and Wolfgang Giegerich goes back to 1990, and he has presented at each gathering of the International Society for Psychology as the Discipline of Interiority since the first ISPDI conference in 2012.
